This page gives a practical overview of sustainable farming resources in the Namibian context.
This includes different approaches referred to as Organic Farming, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Agroecology, Regenerative Agriculture, Agroforestry, whereby we chose to use ‘Permaculture‘ as the overarching term because its design principles and practices not only apply to agricultural systems but to more sustainable ways of living in general.
Based on our initial Urban Gardening & Nutrition Project in 2020/21, we developed a step-by-step permaculture backyard gardening guide, as well as an mini-video series on how to establish and maintain your gardens without using harmful pesticides (which remain in our soil, water and food) but by using suitable alternatives.
In 2021, we also hosted a series of informative TED-style talks that include:
- “Agrobiodiversity Conservation – Microbes, Trad. Crops & Indigenous Breeds“, by Prof. Percy Chimwamurombe (NUST)
- “Organic Agriculture – Opportunities & Importance, globally and in Namibia“, by Eckhart Förtsch (NOA)
- “Permaculture Design & Practical Application in Namibia", by Donovan Wagner (Eloolo Permaculture)
- “Engaging Rural Communities in Horticulture to Improve Nutrition and Health“, by Gunther Roeber (DAPP)
